Women's XV v Warringah W 17 - 7 Campbell Aitken
Easts Women travelled to Warringah on Saturday evening buoyed by a strong performance against Sydney Uni and determined to upset the last 2 seasons grand finalists. Playing into the breeze, Easts defended well for the first quarter of the game before finally getting their hands on the ball. Looking to play expansive rugby at every opportunity, Easts took the lead with a fine set play that had Jude Kendrick scurrying in at the corner to take a 5 – 0 lead. Encouraged by this – Easts threw caution to the wind and found the Rats struggling yet again and Ireland international, Aoife McDermott broke free before selling an outrageous dummy to the full back to score between the posts. Easts led 10 – 0 at half time. Playing with the wind in the second half, Easts dominated territory for the first period and went over again through a fine set piece play that saw Courtney Frankl score next to the posts. Phoebe Loughhead added the extras to make the score 17 – 0. The final quarter saw the game peter out as a spectacle as Easts rang the changes. The Rats, boasting 3 Wallaroos in their team threw everything at Easts however Easts stood firm until after the buzzer when the Rats went over for a consolation score. This was a huge victory for Easts over one of their main rivals and a traditional powerhouse side. This week has Easts playing at home for only the second time this season as they host Campbelltown Harlequins.
