1st Grade Easts v Warringah L 19 - 36 Pauli Taumoepeau

We’ve done it to ourselves again. Three Warringah tries coming from a dud scrum, a loose pass and a unlucky kick off plus 12 points in penalties just killed us. Warringah are a quality side and it’s the good sides that take the points offered to them. Our season is on the line now. Every inaccuracy now can have a very harsh consequence.

2nd Grade Easts v Warringah W 36 - 26 Ed Brenac

After winning the toss and choosing to run with the wind at their backs, Easts kicked long and set themselves up in The Rats half for the first 5 mins but were unable to run away with points. Rats managed to score against the run of play to take a 7-0 lead. Easts went back to the plan and ran in two tries off some well executed set plays and hard work up front from the forwards. Dan Donato had his radar on, kicking both conversions from wide out to take a 14-7 lead. Rats hit back after having some time in possession but couldn’t convert, 14-12.  Late in the half Easts crossed again to go into halftime leading 21-12. With the wind against them, it was going to be a battle to keep the momentum going but following some early raids by the Rats, Easts remained patient and worked the ball into the Rats 20 scoring 2 more tries and a penalty goal. At 36-12 the game was not over and Rats made a late surge, running in a few late tries to peg the score back to 36-26. Despite Rats having momentum, the Easts boys defended well and held the ball for the remaining 3 mins to close the game out.

3rd Grade Easts v Warringah L 19 - 21 Steve Shapland

A very good start and very controlled first half. Our attack and defence were both in control. Probably our best half of football of the year given the quality of the opposition. Job half done. A good start to the 2nd half saw us be patient on attack and eventually squeeze over in the corner to go up 19-0. The tide turned after that. Battling into the win and playing largely without the ball. Rats slowly worked themselves back into the game. Playing with 1 less player for 20mins certainly didn’t help and rats eventually got over the line after the whistle to steal it at the end. The display for the first 50 was our best of the year and the commitment for the last 20 was equally impressive. Sometimes you just don’t get the result.

4th Grade Easts v Warringah W 20 - 15 Stuart Brown

This was an outstanding win by 4th Grade this week. The courage in defence at the back end of each half just showed how far this team has come. I have no doubt we will press for a semi-finals berth within the next six weeks.

5th Grade Easts v Warringah W Zaxian Goode

Keen to bounce back after their subpar game last time they were at Rat Park, the 5th grade boys were eager to begin the game with some intensity. Unfortunately, our defence wasn't quite up to it, slipping off several 1:1's resulting in consistent back pedalling. When we had the ball we didn't offer much as well and pushed passes giving Warringah great field position. Half time score Rats 12-0 Beasts. After a spray at half time - led by Olly Rich, the boys came out with some real intensity and continued to build phases resulting in an early try. Continued battering of the line for 15 minutes increased the pressure on Rats, but simple dropped balls kept them in front. A last ditch backline move created by Toby Cooke, sent Henry Hart through a great line in which he then chipped and chased to score a cracker under the posts, where we hit the lead for the first time 14-12. Rats with 2 minutes remaining won the ball off the kickoff and then had the opportunity to win with a penalty, but chose to run it. Henry Holden secured a great pilfer and penalty to win the game.
