Grade Match Reports | Round 10 | Easts v Norths

1st Grade Easts v Norths L 17 - 18 Pauli Taumoepeau

Better performance this week but still not able to get the result we were aiming for. I thought we put some really great attacking phases together. I'm happy with the opportunities we’re creating. Executing them is the next thing on the list. Our defence was great for the most part. I though both teams were quite even and defended well when needed. Pleasing to see this performance after the non-event in Orange seven days prior. Still – we want to win, we don’t want to be good losers. Looking forward to getting on #1 for our game this weekend. Its been a long five weeks.

2nd Grade Easts v Norths W 27 - 26 Ed Brenac

The boys were keen to get back on the horse after two straight losses. Easts came out firing with some fast passing attack leading to a penalty and 3 points. Minutes later defensive pressure led to an intercept by Ali Beale and easts were 10-0 up. Despite some threatening play from Norths, Easts had the momentum and ran in a 2nd try to Dan England off a well executed set piece play where Will Patterson cut through. Easts struggled to remain disciplined to the ruling of the ref at the breakdown leading to a sin bin and Norths driving a maul to score. Easts kicked another penalty but Norths then hit back right on the half as easts received a 2nd sin bin. 20-12 at halftime. North’s took control after the half running in another two tries and a penalty to lead 26-20. Easts had their chances but execution was letting them down. Easts finally built some phases and ended up scoring, through some good work from the forwards following a number of breaks from the backs to win 27-26.

3rd Grade Easts v Norths W 24 - 21 Steve Shapland

3rd grade started well enough, applying some good pressure through kicks just narrowly missing out on getting some reward on a couple of occasions. Otherwise it was a pretty even first half. Some strong Norths defence in the midfield and around the ruck meaning we weren’t generating enough quick ball or going forward to stretch Northss and went into the break tied at 7-7. Started the second half well and mid way through the second half we were up 21-7 after two good patient tries being direct finally paying dividends. Unfortunately, instead of applying the finishing blow we took the foot off and let Norths tie it up with a few minutes to go. We eventually got our hands back on the ball and earned a couple of penalties and put one over the posts before closing the game out for a close 24-21 win. Some very encouraging aspects mixed in with works-ons but all in all a good result!

4th Grade Easts v Norths L 0 - 15 Stuart Brown

A disappointing result against Norths. We knew we were up against it with a large number of disruptions positionally to the team during the week. The team however never gave up and the effort could not be denied. A bounce back win next week will get the team back on track.

5th Grade Easts v Manly W 40 - 12 Zaxian Goode

Being short on numbers a trip over to Keirle park was never going to be easy. So a 10-a-side game in sloppy conditions was agreed upon. Right from the kick off Tim Wilson took the ball into contact breaking several tackles. This set the tone for the game where the boys were able to create space and intensity from all areas of the park. All the boys played some great rugby with a few getting off the nudey run. Score was 40-12 Easts way.
