1st Grade v Eastwood L 21 - 24 Pauli Taumoepeau, Director of Rugby
We had no more excuses, we were ready to rumble with the game plan and the players - unfortunately we fell short. I though my boys gave it everything. We were inaccurate in some crucial moments of the game and for 20 minutess played with 14 men. Eastwood were too good with constant scrum pressure and some nice touches in transition. 2019 was meant to be better than this. We’ve built this program to do better and we weren’t able to deliver. Thanks for all the messages and the support over the year. It hurt the players to finish our season like that. But, I couldn’t be prouder of the fight they showed for 6 straight weeks. Sorry we couldn’t get it done for you. We’ll keep fighting.
2nd Grade v Sydney University L 15 - 43 Ed Brenac
It was a game where a win would guarantee us a place in the finals and a loss would leave it in the hands of others. Uni were always going to be a strong outfit at their home ground and the game reflected that. With them leading both halves and Easts not having an answer, they booked themselves into the finals. The Easts boys showed glimpses of their form of late but not enough to undo Uni. We needed Gordon to do us a favour and they did. By the skin of our teeth we play another week. MOM Jack Digby.
3rd Grade v Sydney University L 17 - 34 Steve Shapland
Unfortunately the season is over. After a great run to get into the playoffs it all ended very quickly. Full credit to Uni who were the better team on the day, their defence and the fact that they took all of their opportunities was too much for us. We left ourselves with too much to do after a poor start to the game where we lost our shape and went chasing the game rather than building our way back slowly. We were much better in the 2nd half and caused some issues for Uni but were unable to capitalize on our good work. The boys were buggered at the end and incredibly disappointed but that is rugby, someone has to lose. I am incredibly proud to have coached this group of Easts men, their effort and commitment were unwavering through the year. Thank you gents! Thank you also to Elliot, Scott, Marcus and Tuffy for your expertise, effort and energy through the year. It doesn’t happen without you. Until next year! MOM Josh Smith.
