2nd Grade v Sydney University L 18 - 37
The stage was set... Easts vs Uni for the Colin Caird Sheild. There is no debate that these were the best two teams in the comp, but form is nothing in a Grand Final. Easts claimed first point with dominant possession in the opening 5 mins. They looked to be going for more points however Uni were strong over the ball and a number of penalties at scrum time eventually led to Easts defence cracking and Uni evening up the score 5-5. Easts marched straight back down the Uni end of the field but some poor executuion allowed Uni to pounce again and take a 10-5 lead. Easts drew closer with a penalty, but Uni took their Chances and took a 20-8 lead into the half.
Easts hit back straight after the break and converted to make the score 20-15. Easts had momentum and had their chances but just couldn't get across the line. Uni held out and capitalised on Easts errors and crossed again to take a 25-15 lead. Easts did not hold back but all efforts ended with a last error or a penalty. Easts kicked another penalty to take the score within 7 with 8 minutes to go. The boys threw everything at Uni, but their defence with held and in the last 5 minutes uni closed out the game with another two tries to finish the game 37-18.
